Contributing/Correcting Factual Data

Factual builds Business Listing and POI data for mobile applications and online services that require a data layer of local commerce and landmarks. Unlike other data providers, one cannot “claim” or “own” a record within Factual’s data. We use machine-learning algorithms to perform the assemblage and assess the accuracy of our location data based on hundreds of millions of inputs from a variety of sources:

  • referenced pages from constant crawls of the web
  • contributions of data from developers using Factual data to power their apps
  • third party user contributions (in app reviews, check-ins from apps, etc.)
  • Trusted Data Contributors

Our algorithms determine from all of these incoming inputs which incoming data match up to existing places, the confidence that a place truly exists, the possibility an existing place may have closed, and many other details.

Contributing & Fixing Data

There are two ways to make explicit contributions or edits to Factual’s data:

  1. Via our Online submission form (for single location requests): submit corrections, new businesses, report duplicates, or request removals of specific businesses)
  2. Via our Trusted Data Contributors (for brands and chain business owners): working with online business listing management services to manage a moderate number of specific listings or brands

What do I do if I submit data to a Trusted Data Contributor and it doesn’t show up in Factual’s data?

Please direct your questions directly to the Trusted Data Contributor with whom you submitted your data. We are working with our partners to ensure that your contributions to them are reflected in our dataset as soon as possible, but make no specific guarantees.

How long before new places appear in Factual?

Your data may take as long as 8 weeks to appear, but we are working to see it surfaced much faster.
